Gundog Training with 17 week old Inca the Labrador.
Caroline used to own a yellow Labrador called Nell who in January, at a very young age had to be put to sleep due to a sudden illness. Caroline now owns Inca the black Labrador who she obtained at 7 weeks with the help from me. I have been involved with training Inca since she arrived at Caroline’s home where I went and did a home behavioural visit. This was done at an early stage to ensure that the problems Caroline experienced with Nell would not emanate in Inca and therefore boundaries and structure were put into place immediately.
The beauty of working a dog from a young age is that with consistency they quickly understand rules and boundaries. Inca is a well loved but happy dog who understands her position and what she is required to do. She is currently in my kennels for residential gundog training and has been here for 3 weeks. At only 16 weeks old Inca has been involved with my 1-2-1 gundog lessons with clients, group gundog training, obedience classes and has had the opportunity to participate at a gundog demonstration. On Saturday she attended the group gundog training session and certainly showed her true potential as she was able to demonstrate her capabilities. Inca enjoys what she has been trained to do and is currently working on the stop whistle, sit, wait and recall as well retrieval and deliverance of a dummy perfectly to hand.
I am looking forward to continuing the training with Inca as she is a happy, bright and loveable dog. she is showing great potential to becoming a working dog and even though Caroline has no intention of working with Inca in the future, her husband may decide to take on this roll.
