Gundog Training young Dexter the Springer Spaniel

Dexter is 7 months old and full of energy. His owner Libby contacted me after he’d pegged a duck on their farm. As Dexter is destined for the shooting field that behaviour is totally unacceptable.

Living on a farm can and does create many problems from an early stage. With access to large fields Dexter has been allowed to free hunt. His retrieves to hand have become a game with Dexter circling and playing with the dummy. Today was their 4th lesson and it shows progress is being made. His hunting, quartering, retrieving and interaction with Libby has come a long way.

Remember taking your dog into the shooting field shouldn’t be rushed, we have many years to work our dogs so ensure your dog is ready.
