Residential Gundog Training with Isla the Hungarian Vizsla
Andy and Siobhan crossed the border from Yorkshire to bring their 6 month Hungarian Vizsla, Isla, for a 1-2-1 session. They had been struggling with their dog training; Isla was pushing boundaries and not responding to commands. They realised at that first training session that if they wanted to bring Isla up to gundog standard, it would take some intensive work and booked her in for residential gundog training.
During her time with me, Isla has been learning good manners. We have done a lot of heel work, focus work, steadiness and worked on her recall. As with many dogs I see, Isla has been given lots of love but not enough structure, creating behaviour that then has to be rectified. If Isla is to work in the field she will need to develop her steadiness and the rural location of my kennels is ideal for this, with plenty of opportunities to desensitise her around livestock. Two weeks in and Isla is doing well with her owners enjoying my regular social media posts on her progress.
