Puppy Training with Jenson the Cocker Spaniel
Jenson is a very cute Cocker Spaniel puppy. As with all puppies, while they are tiny, cute and fun is the time to start to focus on puppy training. Jenson is from working stock and his owner Oliver realises the importance of getting the training right, starting with good recall.
Owner’s perception of socialising their puppy is to allow them to meet and greet people and dogs whilst out walking. In fact it’s the opposite, allowing your dog to do this only encourages excessing pulling on the lead. When puppy training you need to control each situation. Set boundaries and be consistent to ensure this foundation work has the maximum effect.
Jenson is making great progress. When Oliver arrived for his 1-2-1 today, he was nervous, thinking that Jenson had not made enough progress. However the opposite was true. Jenson now has a great sit, stay and recall and we were able to introduce some whistle work. I also started some retrieve training using Jenson’s favourite frog toy. I’m looking forward to seeing his progress at the next lesson as his owners’ continue their commitment to his training.
