Getting Ready for Lulu with Pre-Puppy Training
If you are getting a puppy, you need to get ready. This involves so much more than providing somewhere to sleep and some food bowls. My pre-puppy training helps you fully prepare for all that is involved in settling your young pup quickly and starting with some basic training.
The future owners of Lulu, the working Labrador, know a client of mine who has a very well trained working Lab. They want their dog to be just as well trained, even though they are not planning to work her. They approached me for some pre-puppy training before they brought Lulu home. In a virtual session, we covered collecting the pup, integrating into the household, feeding, toileting, structure and basic commands.
Post-Puppy Virtual Lessons
Five days after picking Lulu up, we had a follow up post-puppy virtual lesson. The owners had sensibly kept in touch with me during these first days to check they were on the right track. It was great to hear how well Lulu was doing. Her owners have closely followed my advice. She is already toilet trained and knows where to toilet in the garden. She understands yes and no and is learning not to jump up or bite. While still a very young dog at just eight weeks, she is of course having puppy moments but the owners know what to expect and how to relax and enjoy their new dog.
Planning For The Future
I am looking forward to meeting Lulu for practical one-to-one lessons, eventually leading to a residential stay. These owners have put a good training package in place. The financial investment they will make on training in the first year of Lulu’s life will pay back huge dividends. It is an investment well worth making for a lifetime with a happy, obedient dog.
