Tali at 19 Weeks
It’s been a few weeks since I updated you on my training with Tali, my 19 week old Springer. She is progressing very well. I have established a good bond with her, which has been built, not bribed or bought.
Tali works with me at client lessons, without engaging with the dogs or their owners. She also does not run in when a client throws a dummy for their dog. This is so important. Far too much emphasis is put on socialising young dogs with other dogs and their owners. If your dog goes after another dog’s retrieves, this can create aggression problems. It’s also rude. My dogs interact only with me, so these kind of problems are avoided.
I am currently working on distance and directional retrieves with Tali. I can sit her up, walk away in front of her and then throw out a dummy to her left or right before her sending her out on the retrieve. She will also sit while I throw the dummy over her head for her to retrieve. You can see videos of Tali working on these retrieves and other updates on her progress on my Instagram account.
