Pre-Shoot Training – Getting Your Dogs Ready
The 2020 shoot season was pretty much abandoned by many shoots. There is a great degree of uncertainty about the 2021 season, with some shoots already cancelling shoot days. However, plans are being made by some shoots to offer additional days to make up for last year. If your local shoot is one of these, it’s essential to have your dogs ready with pre-shoot training.
After the lack of opportunities last year, the chances are that your dogs may be rusty. Now is the time to put the work in. With the season starting in August and September, good dogs will be in demand. On busy shoots with multiple dogs picking up, steadiness is the key. I always say, a Spaniel will hunt, a Retriever will retrieve but neither are born to be steady. This has to be taught. If they can’t do it in a training environment, there is no way they will do it on a shoot.
I’d love to work with you and your dogs on refresher training. I can work with multiple dogs over a half day session to make the most of the training for you. Just get in touch and let’s hope for a good 2021 shooting season.
