Consistency is the key to dog training
I say to everyone – consistency and only consistency is the key to dog training. This applies to every area of life with your dog. If you let you dog dash out of the door in front of you, why are they going to wait nicely to be let through the gate into the park?
Most people start their dog training with good intentions. Then a couple of things happen. One is that their dog hits six months and they think the training is done. The other is that they run out of time to train or maybe out of money to see a dog trainer regularly. Every day is a training day with a young dog. It doesn’t stop when they have a good sit and can walk on the lead. You need to future proof them for every environment. It’s not enough to trust that they will come back because they do most of the time.
Don’t wait for an accident to happen
A client of mine who is not in the best of health was recently knocked over by her dog. Fortunately, she was ok but it could have been much worse. She allows the dog to rush about and then is disappointed when he doesn’t respond to her commands.
When you recognise that consistency is the key to dog training, every interaction with your dog will be easier. Dogs are there to be enjoyed, put the effort in, use a professional dog trainer and the investment will pay you back for years to come.
