Sheepdog Training Skye my working border collie
Skye is 20 month old and wow she’s doing great with her training. Whilst I never had the intentions to trial her there’s the possibility I may do next year. For the moment we are both growing our working bond. Skye’s character is so loving and all she wants to do is please me.
Having a dog on my farm is invaluable which was proven today when I decided to walk the fields without Skye, which is uncommon. Whilst checking sheep I realised I was missing a ewe lamb so after searching the ditches I found her stuck deep in a water ditch tangled in brambles. It took some serious strength and my trusty shepherds crook to free her, but she then escaped me. This then proceeded to be a chase and battle of whits, one that the sheep one. Tomorrow when it isn’t dark I’ll check on her, in the meantime I know she’s safe and alive.
Daily checks on my sheep is so important, it maybe time consuming but it’s one that has saved life many a time, sometimes I’m not that lucky and it’s been too late. As a farmer I try my best but life can be cruel also.
