My Life With Dogs – Meet Damian Barson
Come rain or shine, my life is spent out in the fields surrounded by my dogs and my clients dogs. I love it. My name is Damian Barson and I am dedicated to helping owners and handlers bring out the best in their dog. I have trained and worked dogs since the age of 18. Through studying dog behaviour and psychology, I have learnt to understand how dogs work from a canine rather than from a human perspective. I have my own pack of working dogs and have a passion for encouraging and promoting country sports and British farming.
It surprises many people to know that my love for dogs is equalled by my enthusiasm for humans. I enjoy working with owners, understanding their aspirations and building long term relationships to take their dogs through to their full potential. Many of my clients have been with me over the years, bringing on new dogs and working their existing dogs to a high standard.
The Benefits Of Dog Ownership
As much of my training is on a 1-2-1 basis, I get to know the owners very well. We share the high and lows of not only dog training but other aspects of their lives too. Increasingly, I meet people who are struggling with their health, either mentally or physically. Often, the behaviour of their dog is not the only aspect of their lives that is causing them anxiety. Perhaps a reluctance to spend time training is a result of the reality of living with a physical illness. In my experience, there is very little that dog ownership cannot cure. It’s good to see that week after week, the owners who come to me with the world on their shoulders gradually lift their heads. They see the potential in their dog and that gives them a focus.
I have training areas available across the north west that provide access to a variety of ground cover. This creates a range of training opportunities for all handlers, regardless of level or ability. Whilst much of my activity is focused on gundogs, I work with all breeds of dogs and their owners.
My aim is to provide a friendly environment encouraging a happy and rewarding training experience. I have a very positive outlook on life in general and on training dogs in particular. My understanding of dogs and seeing them working in the fields is what enhances my passion for my job. Every working day is an enjoyable one.
Dog training is all about creating a successful working partnership between the owner and the dog.
Whether you are looking to train your dog for field trials, country fair scurries, as a shooting companion for the field or simply to work to breed standards, my experience, enthusiasm and passion for dogs will help you achieve your goals.
