Dalmatians: love them or loath them
Dalmatians are certainly an acquired taste. If you’ve never owned one before, then I’d recommend researching the breed so you understand their temperament and behaviour. They are intelligent and enthusiastic working dogs so they are constantly looking for something to do. They are very mischievous and can become destructive if bored.
Dotty is a three year old rescue Dalmatian and we know very little of her past. She’s certainly not been socialised or even trained in basic commands or manners. Dotty’s owner suffers with a serious mobility problem, so the repercussions if she is pulled over by the dog are serious. However, as with any rescue dog, it’s important not to dwell on what Dotty’s past may have been but to focus on what her future can be.
Today was Nicola and Dotty’s third lesson and whilst she’s still challenging, it’s evident changes are being made. It’s important to realise that to achieve your goal you need to be committed and patient. Progress can be slow with rescue dogs but consistency means you will get there in the end.
