Adapting Dog Training For Your Family

I approach every client individually and offer a tailor made approach to dog training for your family. This includes strategies to meet the specific needs of individual family members.

I currently have a family who are on a pre/post puppy package with me. Their son has special needs; one thing that particularly upsets him is the sound of children crying. We spoke in their pre-puppy lesson about the best way to handle this if the dog whines or cries. We discussed how all the sounds a dog makes are communication because they don’t have any words. I then created a scenario for them: the child who whines in class doesn’t get attention from the teacher until they are sat quietly and calmly. In the same way, when puppy is sitting quietly, that’s the time to interact with them. If they are whining, rather than pacify them, they need time to calm down.

The approach this family has taken in getting ready for the puppy and identifying possible problems early will ensure they have a great start to dog ownership. If you need a tailored training package to suit your family circumstances, please get in touch.
