#Farm24

You may well have seen #Farm24 on your social media feeds over the last few days. Organised by Farmers Guardian, this is agriculture’s biggest online event showcasing what farmers do up and down the country in a typical working day. It celebrates British farming and offers a valuable insight into where and how food is produced. It also profiles the huge variety of roles and responsibilities taken on by farmers as food producers and custodians of the countryside.

The Tessleymoor Farm

I have been farming since early May of this year. Of course my farming life has been in the planning for much longer than this. It’s a privilege to join the farming community and share in the successes and challenges of this way of life. My flock has grown quickly and I am currently training up my Border Collie puppy, Skye, to work alongside me. I am also taking delivery of a flock of turkeys, thinking ahead to this year’s Christmas dinner.

However, not every aspect of farming life has been plain sailing. We should appreciate the work that goes into producing our food and drink. Just this week one of my lamb’s has died. The time I have put into caring for this lamb and the value of the sheep I have lost has really made me consider what it must be like for farmers with larger flocks and herds. It’s so important that we support British farming and buy British whenever we do our food shop. Take a look at #Farm24 on your social channels to find out more.
