New Goats Arrive
I’ve taken delivery of nine new Ruby Red Boer goats. The breeder brought them all the way down from Kincardineshire near Aberdeen in Scotland. You can imagine that after the long journey, they were keen to have a play about and an explore when they got out of their trailer. This made rounding them up and getting them into the goat paddock a bit of a challenge and it took four of us to move them. If you think sheep are flock animals, you should see goats. If one goes off for a frolic, they all go too.
I’ve put the Ruby Red’s straight in with my existing goats. They are all horned – it’s very important not to mix horned and dehorned goats as serious injuries can occur. My existing goats were protective of their paddock but then settled down nicely. The all spent the night in the goat shed with no problems. This morning, a beautiful crisp Lancashire morning and just 2°, I let them all out into the paddock again. These goats are from Scotland so the cold won’t bother them one bit. They need training into the routine and to learn where to go but this will come over time.
