German Shepherd – Residential Dog Training
It was great to have Maggie the German Shepherd in for training today.
I’ve been training Maggie from the age of 12 weeks, whilst advising and training her owners before they even collected her. Maggie has featured in previous blog posts so it’s great to give an update to show what can be achieved with consistency.
Maggie was a joy to train with today. Whilst with me we worked on livestock desensitisation around my goats and sheep. Being a strong breed and a dog that is strong willed it’s important that she’s well behaved around livestock.
With winter nearly upon us, todays snow, frost and icy conditions was a great example of why we need to ensure a powerful dog like Maggie is under control when on the lead.
Anything can be achieved when you set your mind to it. Owning a German Shepherd isn’t for the faint hearted so when my friend asked me to help find Maggie I immediately advised the importance of consistent training. This is definitely reflected in how well behaved Maggie is for her age. We’ve still plenty to work on, but by following my ‘The Tessleymoor Training’ programme anything is achievable.
I also produced a quick YouTube short video of Maggie meeting the goats.
