How important is heel work training?

importance of heel training

This cute little pup is 12 week old Freddie. As you will see, we’ve already got him focused on his heel work training. It’s so important to start young when working with your dog. The Tessleymoor Way training philosophy is based on getting this foundational work in place. Through this you can build a great bond with your dog.

I am encouraged to see that new dog owners are making calls regarding training and general puppy advice earlier and earlier, many before they even bring their new pup home. Even at eight weeks, there are many things you can do to understand the needs of your dog and start building a good relationship with them. This applies to both your home environment and as you start to take your dog out. I am always happy to advise on issues such as toileting, crating and sleeping. All these things will help you establish a great routine with your puppy.

Then when it comes to things like heel work training, you already have a head start. This comes from having a settled puppy who knows their place in the pack. Many of the calls I take are to schedule that first lesson in at 12 weeks – it’s never too early to start training.
