Training your first working dog: Iris at 21 weeks
It was great to catch up with Iris and Charlie again this week and see how she is progressing. Charlie has worked hard to get the foundations in place. Iris has a good sit and wait and her retrieves are coming on well. He now needs to work at finishing well and setting her up for the next retrieve. The aim is to keep Iris completely focused on him when they are out training.
With Charlie out at college or working most of the week, other family members have been helping with dog walks. It’s essential that everyone who interacts with your dog uses the same commands and insists on the same standards of behaviour. You can see with Iris that she is getting this consistency, while still very much being Charlie’s dog due to the strong bond he has built with her from a very young age.
