Welcome to October
It’s an exciting day on the shooting calendar with the pheasant season starting today, October 1st. For those of you lucky enough to have shoot days planned, I hope you have a great season. If you’re taking your dog along and have been working hard to get them ready, I am sure they will do you proud.
A couple of things to remember during the season. Firstly, keep up your dog training between shoot days to keep them sharp. Just because you are now out on a shoot occasionally does not mean all training has to stop. Look for areas of weakness when you are working them and focus on these. I’m happy to provide 1-2-1 sessions to bring your dog up to scratch.
Secondly, don’t be influenced by comments your receive while shooting. There are a lot of people with a lot of opinions on how your dog should behave. However, it’s your dog and your training, if you know they are reaching their potential, enjoy what you’ve achieved. If they could improve, we can work on this together.
There is nothing like working your dog on a shoot. Have fun with them and enjoy the privilege of a day’s country sport.
