Parker the Weimaraner

19 Month old Parker the Weimaraner started training with me 2 months ago. His owners initially enquired with a problem of pulling on the lead. Like many owners what they think is a good dog isn’t the case. Victoria thought she had good focus and recall but in reality that wasn’t true. Given the opportunity Parker would chase livestock, he begged, jumps up, pulled excessively and ignored commands when given. Over loving and a lack of training had been a contributing factor to why Parker had become ignorant.

Over the last months we’ve all worked hard on Parkers obedience, helped also by Victoria’s 17 year old daughter Yasmin. In fact Yasmin has been a little star at training to the annoyance of her mum. Competitive situations always helps with training. Now we’d mastered general obedience I decided we needed to start mentally stimulating Parker with some structured gundog training. Parker thoroughly enjoyed the exercises during our lesson. We now have focus, but more importantly we have a bond between owners and dog, something we should never try to buy or bribe, we should earn it.
