Tali At 11 Weeks – Heel Work & Retrieves

It is important to start lead work as soon as possible with your puppy. Always be really positive when putting the lead on. As with all my dogs, I use a slip lead with Tali. I have introduced it gradually so she gets used to the weight of it around her neck. Tali at 11 weeks is now walking to heel on the lead. I use a methodical approach with gentle correction, she is not allowed to sniff or mess about.

This is all part of building the bond using the Tessleymoor Way. I am throwing out small retrieves for Tali, which she is delivering back to hand. Importantly, she is also observing my clients throwing out dummies for their dogs and learning that not every retrieve is hers. Whilst my clients and their dogs are around, her focus must be on me. This means she won’t get over-excited every time she see a person or a dog and go running off to play with them.

It was good to see Tali’s sister, Skadi, this week. Her owners came to train their Cocker Spaniel, Vinnie with me and brought Skadi along. Adam and Grace were a huge help in collecting Tali for me after I had secured a puppy from this excellent breeder for them. Both Tali and Skadi are great dogs and a credit to their breeder.
