Tali at 23 Weeks

I had a proud dad moment last weekend with Tali. Whilst out training a client’s dog with cold game, I decided to let Tali attempt a retrieve with a cock pheasant. Tali has never retrieved feather and the size would certainly be a challenge for her at just 23 weeks.

As you can see from the photo, she smashed it out of the park. She went out, trusted in me and delivered the bird direct to hand. It was not necessarily the best hold but with a first attempt like this, who cares?

I’ve been told so many times: “I want what you have in your dogs”. I always say, “you can, if you follow what I ask of you in lessons, then it’s achievable”. There is no magic fairy dust that I sprinkle and it just happens. I build my bond, I create consistencies within my training and most of all, I don’t allow myself to slip off the road into bad habits.

All my training is achieved without treats and bribing my dogs, instead I earn their trust. The result is shown here, with Tali trying her hardest to please me while living the life of a happy, healthy, working dog.
