Red Setter Residential
The latest resident in my kennels is Thandi, a beautiful Irish Red Setter. She’s come all the way from London where she has been living an over-loved and pampered life. Whilst a stunning looking dog, Thandi was becoming a real problem for her owners. A lack of structure and boundaries has led to a dog with no recall, focus or lead work.
When I first spoke to Thandi’s owners, I advised them not to let her off the lead before she came for her residential training. They had told me she was running off whilst walking in the park and I could see this was an accident waiting to happen. They didn’t take my advice and sure enough, Thandi was distracted by some bright lights and ran into the road. She was knocked over by an electric car, which of course she didn’t hear coming. Fortunately, she wasn’t badly hurt but his just reinforced how much training was needed for this Red Setter. When you find a dog trainer, it’s so important to listen to them – it’s not an option, it can save your dog’s life.
Thandi has been with me for three weeks now and is progressing well. She is very responsive to her training. She was reactive to livestock when she arrived and my kennels is ideally situation to desensitise her. Thandi will be staying with me for the next few weeks but I am pleased with her progress so far.
