Residential Gundog Training with Dudley the German Shorthaired Pointer

residential gundog training german shorthaired pointer

4 year old Dudley the German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP) has now resided with me for two weeks of his residential training programme. Dudley is a beautiful example of a male GSP, he’s charismatic, elegant and strong. His owners have a family shoot that he’s worked on but like many family shoots, if your dog isn’t perfect, they are forgiven. This has resulted in Dudley whining a little on the peg, poor delivery of game and a lack of control out in the field.

First, Dudley needs some reinforcement on whistle commands and basics such as holding game. He also needs to focus; a lack of focus on the job and his handler is allowing his brain to wander. These first two weeks have been enjoyable and over the comining weeks I’m looking forward to seeing his progress.

Dudley’s owners are realistic and only want what’s best for him, so whether he’s a peg dog or walked up rough shooting dog they will be happy. It’s all about having a shooting companion in the field so they can both enjoy the day.
