Residential Training Buster the Belgian Malinois
Rob had always wanted a German Shepherd and his wife brought Buster as a surprise for him last Christmas. When I first met them in March, I instantly questioned if they had pedigree paperwork. It was clear to me that Buster wasn’t a German Shepherd. Rob was shocked when I told him the dog he had was a Belgian Malinois.
Buster had become domineering and slightly aggressive towards the family. Malinois have their own set of character traits. They are stubborn, active, alert, confident, friendly, hard-working, protective and watchful. They need to be active and given a purpose. If not mentally stimulated they become destructive and controlling.
After two 1-2-1 lessons, it was decided that Buster was in need of some intense residential dog training to correct his behaviour. It was important he wasn’t allowed to continue with his aggressive dominant behaviour, especially as there are children in the home.
Buster has now resided with me for nearly two weeks. He’s responding well to his training programme. I’ve been able to correct his dominant tendencies, although he’s still trying to control certain situations.
Belgian Malinois are one of my favourite breeds because of their high energy, intelligence and ability to challenge. I liken this breed to a Ferrari: if you can’t drive a fast car, don’t own one. I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead with Buster and delivering a well trained dog to his family.
