Sheepdog Training
If you are looking for sheepdog training in the North West, my farm near Lytham in Lancashire provides the perfect environment. I am a vastly experienced dog trainer and since starting my farm, have created the ideal set up for sheepdog training. This includes training sheep, pens and open fields. I also have my own dog, Skye, to demonstrate commands.
I know how busy life can be as a farmer. Sometimes it’s easy to let training slide when there are so many demands on your time. However, a well-trained sheepdog is the best team member you will ever have. They are always eager to work and right by your side when you need them. With good training, they understand exactly what is required of them. While most of my sheepdog training involves the traditional Collie, I can train other herding breeds to work with sheep, such as New Zealand Huntaways.

Training for all levels
Often I speak to farmers who are a little disappointed with their dog. This is usually because they had a great dog once and the new dog just isn’t the same. It may be that they had a pre-trained dog and starting from scratch is a lot of effort. Many farmers rely on their older dogs to train the youngsters. This is valuable to a point but of course, bad habits are picked up with the good.
I start training a sheepdog as I would any other dog. Get the basics right. We can train a well-behaved dog that is bonded with you. They know how to stop, lie down and come back. Once these are established, as long as the dog is interested in sheep, the working elements of the training will quickly follow on.
Sheepdog training takes place through 1-2-1 lessons on my farm in Lancashire. For more intensive training, I am able to offer residential stays – ideal for bringing your dog on if your time is limited. Whatever you need from your dog, I am able to tailor the training to suit your circumstances and livestock.
