Virtual Puppy Training
While we are all affected by the Coronavirus situation, somethings can’t change. If you have planned for a new puppy, it’s likely that you will still have collected them. So what does this mean for you as the owner? One major change is that the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) has advised that puppy inoculations are not classed as an urgent vet visit. In effect, this means that many owners will be left unable to have their new puppies inoculated. This of course will increase the time until they are allowed out for walks. As we know, puppies grow very quickly. This could mean a very boisterous pup confined to your house and garden for longer than you were expecting.
I’ve already experienced this problem from an enquiry last night. They have taken delivery of their male ten week old Cavapoo. Being a first time dog owner is already a daunting experience but now they are unable to plan when the dog can be taken out for walks. The first few weeks of your puppy’s life is the most crucial time. They are like sponges, absorbing as much information as possible. The wider the variety of situations you introduce to them, the greater chance you have of ensuring you have a confident and happy dog. In addition, a lack of opportunities to walk your puppy will certainly delay your training outside.
Don’t miss out on vital training time
If you find yourself in this situation, don’t worry. Normally I’d advise new enquiries to book 1-2-1 lessons at my training grounds, but as your puppies won’t be inoculated, that’s difficult. What I am able to offer is my new virtual puppy training. Through FaceTime, I can assess your puppy and advise on those vital first steps. I can adapt my basic puppy training techniques for you to use in the garden or the home. By not skipping these early lessons, you will be well on your way to having an obedient and polite dog by the time you are able to go out for walks.
