Welcoming Saddlebacks To The Tessleymoor Farm

I’ve had unbelievable interest in the Tessleymoor Farm that I started earlier this year. Of course everyone is watching the progress of my Border Collie pup, Skye. People are also interested in my reasons for starting the farm – to raise good quality produce for myself, my family and friends, with as low food miles as possible. I have always been an advocate of shopping local and buying British. Now I’ve taken this one step further by actually producing my own food, on my own land. To keep things local, I am using a network of neighbouring businesses for all my farming and food production needs.

Introducing The Tessleymoor Pigs

The turkeys on the farm are doing well and every one of them has already been reserved for a Christmas dinner. The latest addition to the farm are my Saddleback pigs. They are full of character and very hungry! I got the pigs at 12 weeks from an unusual location – Wymott Prison. They raise their own pigs for sale in the prison shop and also to supply the prison kitchens at Wymott and Kirkham.

I have really taken to the pigs, they are friendly, clean and interesting. The Saddleback is a great breed and they will produce excellent pork and bacon when the time comes. Eventually I would like to sell my produce at farmers’s markets. However, at the moment demand from family and friend is so high, my order book is filling up nicely.
